Cyber Security Training for Schools

To help your school meet the Department for Education Cyber Security Standards for Schools and Colleges, the Police Cyber Protect team are offering fully-funded cyber security training packages catering to the whole school community, at no cost to your school. The DfE have indicated in a consultation published in July 2025 (Narrowing the digital divide in schools and colleges, page 14) that they are likely to make compliance with these standards required by 2030.

We received a visit from a Cyber Protect Officer, who spent the day with us training SLT and teachers and running workshops with our Year 5&6 children. We all took so much from the day, both on a personal and professional level, which includes having a clear plan on our next steps in protecting the school from cyber attacks and checking our personal passwords and being aware of how to report a cyber risk. Thank you!

H.M. – Headteacher, Primary School in Oxon

A cybersecurity expert from the Cyber Protect team in your local Police area will attend the school in-person for a whole afternoon, delivering pupil, staff and senior leadership sessions during and after the school day (depending on how it fits with your timetabling). The team offers:

Inputs for Pupils – 30 minutes per session

Online account and device safety & security for young people, using real-life examples to highlight the risks and promote responsible digital behaviours.

Senior Leaders & Governors – Exercise & Presentation – 1.5 hours

A brick-based tabletop exercise for senior staff intended to get leaders thinking and talking about cybersecurity threats, defences and resilience, this exercise is an education-centric version of our hugely popular Considerations & Consequences offering. The exercise brings to life how carefully considered policies, procedures and investments can build a cybersecurity programme that provides the school with defence in depth and helps align to the DfE Cyber Security Standards, with every decision made during the exercise having a consequence!

The tabletop exercise is followed by a short presentation intended to help align and galvanise thoughts in creating a meaningful programme of improvement and assurance for your school. While we can deliver this session in 1 hour, our experience is that most leadership teams have lots of questions which extends the session to 1.5 hours!

Staff Cyber Security & Awareness Training – 45 minutes

A training session covering key measures staff can take to help them secure their accounts, data and devices online, as well as the cyber safeguarding of pupils and school data. This session will prove useful to them both as staff of your school and in their personal lives.

Parent Sessions – 1 hour (online or in-person)

The Digital Dilemma – Keeping Children Safe Online. Our hugely popular webinar is available to schedule as a session just for your parents. We do know how hard it is to get parents along to in-person events after school, so our preferred delivery is as an online session – but if you can guarantee us a good audience we can add it to the end of our time with you in-person.

Book Now! – Fully-funded by the Home Office

The national cybercrime programme is fully-funded by the Home Office and therefore free to your school. Our trainers have years of experience in delivering cybersecurity training and education, as well as helping organisations manage, mitigate and recover from cybercrimes. Our training programme has been crafted by a former teacher who retrained as a Cyber Protect Officer.
